MK Christmas Lights: Stony Stratford Switches On 21 Nov

Three Milton Keynes towns have confirmed their 2026 Christmas lights switch-on dates: Stony Stratford on Saturday 21 November, Wolverton on Friday 27 November and Newport Pagnell on Saturday 28 November. The big city centre event run by the MyMiltonKeynes business improvement district had not announced a 2026 date when this page was written on 5 September.

Stony Stratford: Saturday 21 November, the full running order

Stony Stratford’s switch-on is the most detailed of the three, and the organising committee has published its timings in full. Christmas Lights at Stony Stratford 2026 is Saturday 21 November.

• WatlingFest starts at 12:10 on the Market Square.
• The lantern procession leaves York House Centre at 4:15, going along London Road, High Street and Church Street to the Market Square.
• The switch-on is at 5.30pm on the Market Square.
• All car parking is free, though the organisers warn the car parks fill quickly and ask people to come early and park considerately.

The day is run by the Christmas Lights At Stony Stratford committee with support from Stony Stratford Business Association and the town council, and it brings stalls, concessions, a funfair and dancing to the Market Square alongside the lantern parade. Wolverton: Friday 27 November, The Square

Wolverton and Greenleys Town Council has set its event for Friday 27 November 2026 on The Square, Wolverton, running 5pm to 7pm with the main switch-on at 6pm. Entry is free and there is no booking.

The council says there will be a visit from Santa, live entertainment around the Christmas tree from local schools and Churches Together, and a range of festive stalls and activities. (Wolverton and Greenleys Town Council)

Two further Wolverton dates are worth knowing. The town’s Civic Carol Service at St George the Martyr is listed for December 2026 with the date and time still TBC. Christmas Eve on The Square, when Wolverton Town Band plays beside the Christmas tree from 4.30pm after the 3.30pm Christingle service, still carries last year’s date on the council’s site and has not been confirmed for 2026. Newport Pagnell: Saturday 28 November, stalls from 10am

Newport Pagnell Town Council’s town diary gives Saturday 28 November 2026 on Newport Pagnell High Street, with stalls opening at 10am and the switch-on at 5pm. (Newport Pagnell Town Council, what’s on)

This is a full-day street event rather than a short ceremony. The council’s own volunteer briefing describes road signs going out on the High Street, traffic control on the day, a raffle and barbecue, an MC tent and a stallholder street plan, with volunteers needed from 6.30am. Expect the High Street to be closed to traffic for much of the day, though no traffic order has been published yet. (Newport Pagnell Town Council, Christmas lights)

Central Milton Keynes: no 2026 date yet

The city centre switch-on is run by the MyMiltonKeynes business improvement district with MKFM, and it is the largest of the lot. No 2026 date had been published as at 5 September.

What the BID has published is a full account of the 2025 event, which is the best guide to the shape of this year’s. It ran on Saturday 22 November 2025 at The Point car park, kicked off at 4pm hosted by magician and comedian Dave Allen, and finished with the lights and a firework display set off from the Food Centre site. Christ the Sower Primary School choir opened, Arts1, Ollie Corbett and the 50-strong Milton Keynes Rock Choir followed, and the countdown was led by the Milton Keynes Theatre panto villain alongside Father Christmas. The venue has moved twice in three years, which is worth knowing before you head for the wrong end of the city centre. In 2023 the event was at Midsummer Place from 3pm to 5pm. In 2024 it moved to the car park next to The Point, with funfair rides from 2pm and the show from 4pm, and it stayed there in 2025. (MKFM, November 2023 · MKFM, November 2024)

On the pattern of the last three years, expect the 2026 date to be the third or fourth Saturday in November and the announcement to land in October. This page will be updated when it does.

What else is confirmed for Christmas in Milton Keynes

• The Snowman at centre:mk, 20 November to 24 December 2026. Santa’s grotto in Middleton Hall becomes a live interpretation of The Snowman, with a craft session, a meeting with Santa in his woodland cabin and a gift for every child. Tickets are £16 a child, £6.50 an adult and £5 for a baby under one, with a 10 per cent booking fee added to all of them. • Dickens of a Christmas, Olney. The Victorian street event is held on the first Sunday in December from 10am to 4pm, with costumed stallholders, craft fairs at The Olney Centre and the Carlton House Club, a street organ and Olney Brass Band. A park and ride from Yardley Road Industrial Estate is offered subject to confirmation. Olney Town Council’s page still shows the 2024 date, but stallholder applications for this year close on 1 October 2026, so the event is running. (Olney Town Council)

Getting there and parking

• Stony Stratford. Free parking on the day, but the town’s car parks are small and the High Street fills from late morning.
• Wolverton, The Square. No event parking has been announced. Wolverton station is a short walk from The Square.
• Newport Pagnell High Street. Expect stalls to take the street for much of the day. Use the town car parks and arrive early.
