A Milton Keynes city councillor has abseiled 418ft down the Northampton Lift Tower to raise money for Harry’s Rainbow, the Milton Keynes charity that supports children and young people after a parent or sibling dies.
Cllr Wing Tsang, who represents Broughton and Moulsoe, went over the edge on Saturday 5 September. She contacted MK Daily the same evening with a statement and four photographs, and asked us to point readers at the charity rather than at her. The tower is in Northampton, not in Milton Keynes. Her press release describes it as the world’s tallest permanent abseil tower.

What she said about it
Cllr Tsang gave this account after coming down:
“Standing at the top of the tower and looking down was quite an experience, but I knew there was a much bigger reason for being there.
“Harry’s Rainbow does incredibly important work here in Milton Keynes, particularly for children and young people whose lives have changed enormously through bereavement.
“As the council’s Mental Health Champion, I am very conscious of the impact grief can have on someone’s mental wellbeing and how important it is to have somewhere to turn when support is needed.
“Milton Keynes has always been home for me, so being able to take on a personal challenge while raising money for a charity helping people within my own community made it especially worthwhile.”

Who she is
Cllr Tsang was elected in May 2026, at the city’s all out elections, and it was the first time she had stood for office. The next test of the council’s make up is the New Bradwell by-election on Thursday 24 September.
She took on the role of the council’s Mental Health Champion this term. According to the press release she sent us, that has meant meeting organisations and communities across the city to understand what local mental health provision looks like and where more support may be needed. She also sits on several council committees and holds a number of trustee roles.
She was born and brought up in Milton Keynes and still lives and works here. The release says she wanted the challenge to benefit a charity working with families in the community she represents.
The charity
Harry’s Rainbow provides bereavement support to children and young people in Milton Keynes and the surrounding area, helping families after the death of someone close to them. That description is the charity’s work as set out in the material Cllr Tsang sent; we have not independently audited its services.
