Anglian Water will close Newport Road at the approach to Stonebridge roundabout from 19 October to 4 December to repair a collapsed sewer. Buses 5 and 7 change route.
Newport Road in New Bradwell will close on Monday for seven weeks. Anglian Water is shutting it at the approach to Stonebridge roundabout for emergency work on a collapsed sewer.
The closure runs from Monday 19 October to Friday 4 December. The dates come from the city council’s own Get Around MK bus disruption list, which describes the job as “emergency works to a collapsed sewer”.
Because it is emergency work, the closure is not among the planned orders on the council’s highway notices page. It was not in the council’s weekly batch of traffic notices served on 15 October either.
What changes for buses
The council’s list sets out new routes for the two services that use Newport Road:
- Service 5 will run straight along Grafton Street instead.
- Service 7 will use the eastern section of Newport Road as usual. It will then divert down Bradwell Road in place of the 5, and use Grafton Street and Millers Way to and from Wolverton.
- Buses towards Wolverton and towards the city centre will stop on the opposite side of Bradwell Road to the side the 5 normally uses.
The list does not name any stops that will be missed.
There is a second, shorter change nearby. Stop 5341 on Newport Road will be shut from 9.30am to 4.30pm on Friday 23 October for nearby utilities work. The council says to use stops further along Newport Road or on Bradwell Road that day.
What it means for you
- Driving: from Monday, you cannot get through to Stonebridge roundabout on Newport Road. The council’s bus page does not give a signed diversion for cars. Planned and emergency closures, with their diversions, are mapped on one.network, which the council points drivers to.
- By bus: check which side of Bradwell Road you need before you wait. If you normally catch the 5 on Newport Road, the 7 now covers Bradwell Road.
- How long: 4 December is the end date the council has published. Emergency repairs can finish early or run on, so check the council’s list before you travel.
- Reporting a problem: sewer issues such as smells or overflowing manholes go to Anglian Water on its report a problem page.
The closure is on our weekly Milton Keynes roadworks and travel page, alongside the other closures ordered across the city over the next fortnight.
